팝아트, pop art
순수 미술에 있어서 '팝아트란 무엇인가?'라는 의문에서 시작한 본 석사논문은 과거 미국의 팝아트에 대한 연구와 최근 하나의 뚜렷한 흐름으로 자리 잡고 있는 한국의 대중 지향적 순수미술, 즉 '코리안 팝 아트(Korean pop art)'에 관한 종합적 연구서이다. 팝아트는 산업사회가 생산해내는 대중문화를 담아내는 미술형태를 지칭하는 용어이다. 팝아트가 낳은 파격적인 예술관과 전위적 태도는 회화의 차원을 넘어서 문화계 전반에 열띤 토론의 분위기를 형성하였으며, 반세기를 목전에 둔 현재까지도 막강한 영향력을 행사하고 있다.\r\n\r\n20세기 이후 인류가 고안 해 낸 '순수 미술'이라는 영역은 고도의 산업화와 더불어 욕망의 폭증과 그 변화의 양상을 다른 어떤 예술장르보다도 기민하고 적나라하게 표출해왔다. 이러한 회화적 전통의 대표적인 예시로서 본 석사논문은 팝아트라는 영역을 다룸에 있어 팝아트의 역사를 개관하고 주요 작가와 작품을 위주로 특정 주제를 효과적으로 전달하기 위해 어떠한 소재와 기법을 사용하고 발전시켰는지를 통시적이고 종합적인 관점에서 접근하였다. 초기 제스터 존스와 로버트 라우센버그에 의한 오브제의 새로운 변형, 앤디 워홀과 클레스 올덴버그와 같은 매체와 재료의 변형과 그것들이 갖는 의미를 연구하는 것은 국제화, 고도의 산업화, 새로운 대중매체, 통신매체의 도입과 급격한 사회 변동을 겪고 있는 한국에서 '팝아트'가 화두로 떠오른 것은 시대상황과 더불어 과거의 것을 통해 현재의 문화현상에 대한 이해를 돕는 실마리를 제공하는 것이기도 하다.\r\n\r\n이미 현재에 있어 과거 팝아트의 표현양식은 더 이상 새로운 기법은 아니다. 그럼에도 본 연구서에서 팝아트의 기법들을 재조명 하는 것은 최근 들어 그러한 기법들이 원용, 또는 변용되고 실험의 재료로서 각광받고 있기 때문이다. 더불어, 팝아트가 순수 미술의 영역에서 하나의 양식화 된 기법을 뛰어넘어, 새로운 시각언어와 매체를 만났을 때에 보다 의미영역을 확대 할 수 있음을 강조하기 위함이다. 나아가 본인의 작품에 적용해 봄으로써 입체작업과 영상언어로서 구체적인 표현방법의 확장을 시도하였다.

The radical perspectives and advanced attitude that has been created by pop art has stirred heated debates and discussions and has influence society significantly for nearly half a century.\r\n\r\n'Fine art' which was devised after the 20th century has expressed remarkable augmentation and changes in human desires more successfully than any other art genre. this master's essay approaches the area of pop art in a comprehensive and diachronic way and peers into the overall history of the genre. It seeks to observe the main writers and works and kinds of materials and methods used to bring out the main themes. Research into early Jennifer Jones and robert Rauschenberg's objet and their new changes, changes in the materials and media by Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg may create a foundation of understanding pop art in korea which is currently becoming more globalized and being more effective by industrialization, new mass media, communication device and radical social changes.\r\n\r\nExpressive methods of pop art are mothing new theses days, however, the reason this research inquires into such matters is because they are being modified and quoted as experimental material. Moreover, this essay seeks to emphasize the extended meaning of pop art when it is met with new visual language and media to overcome being a mere conventional method of fine arts. Further, this essay tried applying this in order to extend expressive methods by means of a three dimensional artwork and visual language.
