This study aims to describe the structure of popular culture in Korean society as well as the relation between produces and consumers(fans), ultimately leading to a question to define what fans are nowadays. A measure was taken to overcome two limitations from existing studies through the relation between producers and consumers. While artistic sociology was seen as social construct which popular culture or art is in conformity with the relation such as system and authority, it was contradictive in that the consumers(recipients) were excluded in the constructive process. In spite of the fact that the media culture research endows the activeness to the recipient of popular culture, the result which laid emphasis on the decoding shows that it has limitations of viewing the aspect of actors in the real space in common with the producers. Therefore, it intends to set forth the relation of practice and authority of producers and consumers in real space. The comeback movement which the fandom pursued in the field of producers is studied with the process of 'Jay Park Event' from Sept. 2009 through 2017 as a case study. The approaches employed for this research are diversified as on-and-offline field observation, in-depth interview, board and article analysis. \r\nThe research result shall be set forth as follows. Firstly, 'idol' in the area of Korean popular culture takes on the meaning of 'cultural goods' produced by large-scale music agencies with the systematic system. The consumers of such idols used to be teenage girls but expanded to the general adults irrespective of age and sex. In contrast with the former popular music industry, which had been operated separately in line with the value chain of production, distribution and sales, it started to be integrated vertically according to the capital coming from communications agencies. The producers of popular music gradually lost their autonomy and the economic logic came to the fore. On the other hand, the creation of economic profit through idols focused more on the commercials on the basis of public interest on the renowned idols in the situation when the revenue of albums and sound sources diminish due, in large part, to the unauthorized reproduction, so called piracy, thanks to the advancement of digital technology. The reality television programs started to emerge as a major element to attract the public interest on the idols in the process.\r\nThe idol fandom in ever-changing area of popular culture started to expand into women in their twenties to thirties. The fandom here builds up a loose form of community where they can distribute their own arguments while producing, distributing and consuming the 2nd text related to the idol they are after. 2PNI, one of the most famous Korean idol groups, gradually gained public recognition by making appearance to reality television programs since its debut, and the fandom in their twenties to thirties had a good feeling towards the image of those singers as an anomalous and non-commercial close community. Moreover, those reality television programs had the idols be respected as a whole person rather than a pop-culture product. In the process which the fandom participated in the return of Jay Park subsequent to his permanent withdrawal from the group, the fans perceived themselves as actors within the circle of popular culture by dragging such culture into their lives.\r\nThe so-called 'Jay Park Event' happened in 2009 amid the field of producers and consumer of popular culture. A post written by Jay Park, the member of zPM, on his social media prior to his debut provided a reason for the rumor, which is now proven to be caused by the mistranslation, that he depreciated Korea let him withdraw from the team and leave Korea after all. Jay Park, who is Korean-American, spent not less than four years as a trainee at one of three major Korean entertainment agencies, but could not continue his career in less than a year since his debut as a top-class idol group. The fandom see the fact that our evil practice such as nationalism almost to fascism, suggestive press releases, and violent internet culture formed such insubstantial rumor as one thing and that the agency decided his withdrawal peremptorily as another. They believe that there exist some structural flaws with the field of producers of pop-culture producer which discusses the problems including but not limited to juvenile employment, unfair contactual relationship and the like within the boundary of popular culture industry, and try to approach Jay Park's withdrawal from 2PM as a labor issue. The fandom, as a multifaceted social movement, sets forth an unremitting endeavor for his return. The said movement, a type of consumer movement, was a response as consumers to the authority in the field of popular culture where the power of fandom is relatively weaker. Such movement, however, is incorporated into the field of popular music. In February,2070, the entertainment agency, which Jay Park belongs to, withdrew him not only from his team but also from the company for the reasons of 'grave personal issue' without specific grounds. The fandom could not agree with the standpoint as well as the withdrawal method which the company announced, and the gap between two parties failed to be easily bridged in spite of a series of talks. The fandom, which initially supported entire zPM members, was separated into one which supports Jay Park only and the other which supports the rest. The one which stuck up for Jay Park after all the 1st and 2nd withdrawal progress came to a conclusion that the core of the problem lies in the field of pop-culture producer which moves along with the economic logic. Such logic is in conflict with the logic of such field of producers. The fandom tries to maintain its area as a private space to protect social bond on the basis of gift economy. Posterior to the 2nd withdrawal, Jay Park's fandom initiated the and return movement which took on completely different aspect of the 1st one. The idols once excluded from the field of popular music because of social capital and power relations among producers have difficulty with getting back in the track of it. His fandom, which already was fully aware of such cruel reality, enhanced his value on the exploitation of social media, brought him back to the field of Korean popular culture, and strived to place him on the center of field of popular music by boosting his value as an idol.\r\nIn conclusion, the popular music industry is being more homogenized to the media industry such as broadcasting in terms of characteristics. Idol producers now are laying more emphasis on increasing the profit from TV commercials by raising their public image irrespective of selling albums to the fans directly. That is, the logic of popular music industry became analogous to the structure that the broadcasting stations gain profit indirectly from advertisers rather than receive the compensation from televiewers for watching their programs. As a result, the fandom not only defray the material costs by purchasing album and the like but also participate in the non-material labor, while their power as consumers get weakened within the field of popular culture as idols start to catch popularity from general public. The fandom, however, is sensible of the responsibility regarding the idols not as a mere product but a humane entity. Thus, it cannot be bound to the logic of field of producers which incessantly brings out numerous questions to the economic logic within such field. It also penetrates into the empty space which generallv occurs within the logic of field of pop-music producers. It takes note of practice within the fandom which became possible in line with the development of digital technology as well as culture. It lets advertisers and entertainment agencies pa]. heed to the value of those they idolize by employing text reproduction, social media and the like as a tool. In addition, it enhances the public image of fans and idols through volunteer activities. It is out of the question to say that their strategies were fully successful so far. Other than this, the fandom bears a significant meaning in that it cannot be completely bound to the field of producers by bringing up a subject if the logic of pop-culture producers which focuses upon the economic profit is normal.
