The desire to define, study and design ‘younger generation’ constantly stimulates the production of various discourses about ‘younger generation’. This thesis aims to investigate the cultural-political implications of such discursive practices. For the purpose of the study, the researcher conducted analyses on 557 articles about ‘younger generation’ and ‘generation of 2030’ from major daily newspapers with the methodology of CDA(Critical Discourse Analysis).\r\n Many of previous arguments about generational discourses were based on essentialist assumption that facticity of certain discourse can be judged in accordance with ‘real’ generational phenomenon. To overcome such limitations of essentialism and systematically examine generational discourses, the perspective of radical constructivism, which can be thought through analytic classification of generation concepts by Karl Mannheim and reconstruction of class theory by Pierre Bourdieu, is of importance.\r\n The discourse of ‘younger generation’ is not a bundle of homogeneous discourses. Many discursive practices which were performed by different agents have been making disparate images and knowledges about the youth. That is, discourses which are different in kind have constituted aggregate characteristics of ‘younger generation’. Different discourses containing different contents also define different identites of the youth and interpellate different subjects – political progressive(left) subject, political conservative(right) subject, competitive subject, etc.\r\n As a result of the study, this paper argues that there have been several kinds of cultural politics through discourses of ‘younger generation’. They are often presented as justifying evidence for certain argument about social phenomenon. They divide people into two groups which are the younger generation and the older generation, suppress members of society who do not fit supposed homogeneity within birth cohorts. They assign ambiguous identity of the youth and the role of passive generation to the youth. The discursive strategy of de-identifying the fixed identity of ‘younger generation’ can function as the counter cultural politics by the youth themselves.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\nKeywords: younger generation, generation of 2030, generational discourse, the discourse of ‘younger generation’, radical constructivism, critical discourse analysis, Cultural politics, identity of youth, generationalism
