Let's understand the word 'Hangul' in two regions. The 'culture' and the 'art'. Firstly 'hangul' as a culture creates the linguistic culture and it naturally creates the typical lifestyle of living. Therefore to understand the Korean culture, people has to either learn the language (Hangul) otherwise a common culture code has to be needed.\r\n\r\nUnlikely, Hangul as an Art can be signified as a common region where anyone can share. Art transcends over time and region where everyone in different ages and areas shares the beauty of art. Hangul can be understood as art too. It reses beyond time and region. Accordingly, we can distinguish the culture as 'concentration' and 'expansion' for art.\r\n\r\nHangul as an art work, anyone can see and feel the letters beyond the limit of linguistic culture. However Hangul which expressed as symbolic character can not break the boundary of its cultural aspect. No matter how great the language is, without learning its impossible to understand the character itself.\r\n\r\nThen what if we express Hangul as a visual character not an written letters? Lets compare with the Non-verbal performances. The advantage of Non-verbal performance is at anyone can understand the message. The audience step away from the verbal communication but instead, they communicate with the music, clothes, stage and gesture. It is like a movie without subtitles. If we solve out the problems within the language, that is when we fully understands the movie and its culture. Sometimes the message without words is stronger than one with words, and this is the visual communication.\r\nNow, let me apply this theory of non-verbal performance to Hangul, the Korean language. We will focus more on the philosophy and principle than the verbal or letter system - as you know Hangul was created by Sejong the Great and scientists of Jiphyeonjeon. I systemized and divided the principles of Hangul. Then I put colors on each element of letters.\r\n\r\nNow I am seeing Hangul as a visual language, in other words, Hangul is not a letter anymore but a design. It is called "non-symbolic character." I believe that anyone on earth can understand and enjoy the Art of Hangul, because Hanful is shown as an image - the hangul image.\r\n\r\nConsequently, without learning Korean language, you can feel the Hangul with the images how it delivers the message in sympathetic way.\r\n\r\nHangul is our precious cultural heritage and cultural art, which was created with our soulful words and spirit, our long time history and tradition. Looking at Hangul as an art work and recreate Hangul in variety ways will further develop the traditionality.
