본 논문은 반 디자인에 관한 연구이다. 본 연구자가 ‘반 디자인(Counter Design)’이라고 명명한 개념은 기존 디자인의 부정이 아니라 연속에 가깝다. 주류와 비주류란 이분법 아래 행해지는 타자성은 디자인의 여러 가능성을 제한한다. 불균형의 폐해를 역사가 증명하듯이, 시소의 균형을 맞추는 것은 중요한 작업이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는, 그 동안 대개의 논문이 주력했던 주류보다 그에 대립하는 비주류의 사례가 상대적으로 더 빈번하게 등장하지만, 결국은 양쪽 모두에 정당성을 부여하는 작업이다.\r\n\r\n이에 관한 구체적인 방안으로써, 더 나은 이해관계와 소통을 위해 연구자가 내세운 것은 ‘대립’ 이다. 그 역의 타당성을 확보하기 위해, 동서양을 불문하고 오랫동안 회자되었던 정반합의 원리를 이론적 토대로, 반 디자인의 속성을 규명하였다. 여기에서는 무엇보다 그 대립의 내재적 특성이 결국 개인의 반발적 본능부터 사회의 범주까지 포괄하는 풍요로운 발전의 씨앗이라는 전제 아래, 연구를 진행하였다. 정과 반의 끊임없는 상호작용을 통해 종래에는 합이 되는, 더 나은 방향으로의 도약을 향한 발걸음이다. 이것은 방법론이 아니며, 지식이나 지능을 높이는 일도 아닌, 다만 안목을 ‘달리’하는 것이다. 본 연구의 이러한 전환 작업을 통해, 커다란 흐름을 보는 통섭의 심미안이 앞으로의 디자인 행동 반경을 넓히는 가치가 있을 것이라 기대한다.
This is a study on Counter Design. The concept naming 'Counter-design' is more of a continuation of the existing design rather than a negation of it. Otherness subject to a dichotomy between mainstream and non-mainstream restricts the potential of design. As the harmful effects of the imbalance in human history proves, it is invaluable to counterbalance the seesaw. Accordingly, the case studies here include fringe examples more often relatively because the most other studies have already worked on the mainstream design but in the end it is to justify both of them. As the concrete plan of the issue, it is the 'opposition' that I suggest for better communication. To give relevance to the opposite premise, I named Counter Design and investigated its characteristics based on the thesis-antithesis-synthesis paradigm. Most of all, I set out this study on the assumption that this kind of approach can make individual and society more colourful and healthful. The mutual interaction of thesis and antithesis results in synthesis and its comprehensive understanding leads us towards better direction.\r\n\r\nThis is neither a method nor improving knowledge and intelligence. Instead, it is just a trial to differ from the view taken by the overwhelming majority and break steps to prevent the visual culture from overheating. I believe that this study on such a conceptual change would deserve perceptive and careful consideration to increase the radius of where design goes.
