문학적 모티브, 서사성, 공간, 영상, 설치
마르셀 뒤샹 Marcel Duchamp 이후, 선택된 오브제를 공간에 배치하여 그 공간 안에서의 관람자들의 보다 직접적인 참여를 유도하는 설치(Installation)라는 형식은 예술과 일상의 경계를 허물고자 한 아방가르드적 사고의 발현이다. 이러한 예술형식에 있어서 ‘참여’에 대한 관심은 1960년대 후반 비디오 아티스트 백남준이 미래의 예술가와 참여자, 그리고 예술은 완전히 새로운 단계에서 상호작용하고 공유, 접촉할 것이라고 예견하였던 것과 같이 뉴 미디어 시대를 맞아 더욱더 증폭되었다. 디지털 문화미학적 공간에서 수용자는 독자보다 감각주의자로 취급된다. 최근의 많은 미디어 아트 전시 역시 표면놀이와 소비의 공간을 화두로 삼고 있는 경향이다.\r\n\r\n이러한 경향이 나온 배경은 우리 사회의 변화와 디지털 영상문화에서 찾을 수 있다고 본다. 디지털 영상문화와 새로운 테크놀러지의 발전에 힘입어 미디어 아트(Media art)라는 새로운 예술은 다양한 장르의 경계를 허물면서 예술의 자율성, 권위에 대한 질문을 던지는 한편, 관람자와 예술가가 상호 작용하여 만들어나가는 예술을 지향한다. 문학 역시 변화하고 있다. 영상이 주는 이미지의 즉시성과 뉴 미디어의 상호작용적 비선형구조가 현대문학의 서사구조에도 영향을 미친 결과이다. 즉 디지털 영상문화 안에서 하이퍼텍스트나 네트워크와 같은 개념이 등장한 이래 문학에서도 텍스트의 선형성과 그에 따른 전통적 서사구조에 대한 파괴와 함께 새로운 형식을 찾으려는 노력이 계속되고 있는 것이다. 더 나아가 사이버 스페이스나 가상현실담론은 전통적 공간 개념 역시 변화시켰다.\r\n\r\n본 논문은 이러한 우리시대의 변동 안에서 문학에서 계속되어 왔던 새로운 내러티브 실험과 기술영상의 발전과 함께 변화된 예술의 형식들이 어떻게 서로 영향을 주고받았는지 연구하고 사회적 실천으로서의 문학과 예술의 관습적 경계를 허무는 미디어 아트와의 공유점을 밝히는 데에서 출발하여 궁극적으로 미디어 아트의 중요한 논제인 상호작용성과 문학에서 추구된 작가와 독자의 상호협력적 글쓰기에 대한 비교연구의 토대 위에서 문학적 모티브의 영상설치작업이 갖는 공간에서의 서사성을 찾는 것을 목표로 한다.
Ever since Marcel Duchamp, installation works became one of the mainstream approaches of avant-gardes trial in which selected objects are installed to certain points of space and are to provide new sources for spectators’ participation. This new approaches of art paved a new way for the avant-garde types of thinking in that they attempted to break an iron wall having resided between art and everyday life. This way of paradigmatic shift of art philosophy has been amplified and consolidated by new artists group since they foretold that artists and spectators would interact, cooperate and contact in a new phase of artistic development. This has been the case especially for the era of new media. So-called the culture of digital media that was given a blood transfusion from the development of digital technology has merged diverging stems of genres, cast questions about autonomy or authority of traditional art, and therefore provided and consolidated new way of art works where spectators and artists interact from the beginning. This is the very point of departure for this thesis. In this thesis three evident research questions have been scrutinized. First, this thesis showed how narrative experiments and technological changes have connected and influenced each other. Second, this thesis evaluated how narrative aspect of literature as a social practice has coincided with the genesis of media art. Third, but the least, this thesis tried to find a distinct way of narration in space through proposing a media installation based on motives from literary works.
