이미지, 사운드, 반복, 배치
영상은 이미지와 사운드로 이루어져 있다. 하나의 영상이 있다. 소리가 지워진 이미지만을 보고, 이미지가 지워진 소리만을 듣는다. 하나의 요소가 배제된 동일한 영상이 주는 자극에는 놀랍도록 큰 차이가 있다. 이처럼 이미지와 사운드는 어느 하나가 다른 하나에 부속된 것이 아니라 동등한 위치를 가진 채 작용하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한 이들은 영상매체 안에서 개별적으로 작용하는 것이 아니라 청각과 시각의 경로를 통해 상호작용하면서 리듬감, 역동성, 시간성, 촉각과 운동성의 느낌들을 만들어 내고 있다. 이것은 본고의 논의에 있어 주요한 전제이다.\r\n본고는 영상 구성 요소인 이미지와 사운드가 반복과 배치를 통해 이루어내고 있는 효과에 주목하낟. 이런 방식은 각각의 구성요소의 본질적 특성을 보여주는 것과 동시에 시각과 청각의 상호작용과 개입을 통해 대상의 다양한 내용적 층위에 접근을 가능하게 한다. 본문에서 다루고 있는 작품은 사운드와 이미지의 관계에 천착하여 내용적 층위를 구축하고 있는 작가드르이 작품과 본인의 작업을 중심으로 한다. 본문의 첫 번째 챕터에서는 영상매체 안에서의 사운드와 이미지가 어떻게 사용되며 어떤 효과들을 만들어 내고 있는지 살펴보고 관계 분석을 통한 감각 인식의 변환을 사유한다. 두 번째 챕터에서는 이미지와 사운드의 반복과 배치를 통해 영상 구축 원리와 효과를 분석한다. 세번째 챕터에서는 이러한 사운드와 이미지의 반복과 배치가 주는 다양한 의미적 양상을 연구하고, 보고 듣는 것의 역전을 통한 의미의 변환으로서의 사회적 변주를 살펴본다.\r\n본문의 내용은 다음과 같다. 제2장의 연구대상은 영상매체의 구성요소로서의 개별적 사운드와 이미지의 변천과 그 둘의 관계를 분석하는데 있다. 사운드와 이미지의 상호 작용은 온전히 보는 것 만으로, 혹은 듣는 것 만으로 얻을 수 없는 풍부한 정보적, 표현적 가치를 제공하는데 이를 '시-청각 환영'과 관련지어 살펴본다. 이미지나 사운드가 구체적을 서로를 지시하지 않으면서 경험과 기억을 자극하여 특정한 감정을 창출하고, 시, 청각 인식에 균열을 일으키는 등의 환영의 형태로 표현되는 사운드와 이미지의 관계연구는 관습적인 보고, 듣기의 행위를 재고해 보게 한다. 제3장에서는 영상을 구성하는 두 요소인 이미지와 사운드의 반복과 배치의 효과를 분석한다. 이미지를 구성하는 기본 단위인 프레임과 쇼트의 분석과 특히 촬영과 편집의 과정을 통해 형식적 측면을 넘어서 내용적으로 보이는 것과 보여주려는 것 사이의 간극을 살펴본다. 특히 쇼트의 반복과 배치의 효과를 따라 형성되는 이미지들 사이의 관계, 공간성, 시간성에 주목하게 된다. 사운드의 측면에서는 리듬과 동기의 반복과 배치를 중점적으로 다루며 그들이 만들어내는 현실과 환영, 표현과 재생의 개념을 연구한다. 제4장에서는 반복과 배치라는 재구성 이전에 그것들을 가능하게 해주는 기호학적, 철학적 논의로서 해체주의 및 탈구조주의 이론을 살펴본다. 제5장에서는 영상 매체에서ㅡ이 반복과 배치가 주는 양상들을 구체적 작품의 예시를 통해 살펴본다. 대상을 바라보고 해석하는 방식으로서의 이미지와 사운드의 반복과 배치는 형식을 넘어서 사회문화적 맥락에서 강조와 해체를 통해 대상을 사유하는 주체의 태도를 반영한다. 본고에서는 특히 주관적 관점의 보기와 듣기의 방식으로 '반복'와 '배치'의 효과에 주목하여 대상을 주관적으로 해석, 해체, 재구성, 혹은 변주하는 사회적 반영으로서의 영상작품, 작품의 현실 반영과 현실 참여의 가능성을 모색하고자 한다.
Video works are consist of image and sound. Try watching a video without the sound or without the image. A same video with one of the conponents missing is extremely different. It confirms that image and sound rather interact with each other's channel to create rhythm, dynamism, temporalite (idea of time), and sense of touch and movement. This is a major premise of my thesis. \r\nThis thesis will focus on the effects produced by the repetition and arrangement of image and sound of video. Such a method reveals the essence of image and sound themselves and at the same time let them interact with and intervene in each other's category, and therefore allows various approaches to different layers of context in an objet. The thesis will research and analyze the author's own and other artists' works which are particulary focusing on creating semantic layers upon the relationship of sound and image. The first chapter will discuss on how sound and image acts within a video and will attempt change of sensory perception. The second chapter will analyze the principle and effect of video construction based on repetition and arrangement of image and sound. The third chapter will examine the various meanings created by the repetition and arrangement and the social variation mediated by subversion of and sound.\r\nThe body part of the thesis will further discuss on the issue as following. Chapter 2 researches on the history of sound and image as one of the factors of the video and analyzes the relationship between them. Interaction of sound and image provides abundant information and expressiona which would not have been possible without each other. This logic will be explained in relation tothe concept of 'audio-visual illusion'. As sound and image without any concrete instruction to each other stimulate the memory and experience of an audience, create an emotion, and distorts the perception of visual and audio senses which turns out to be an illusion. Such a relationship of image and sound suggests the reconsideration of seeing and hearing. Chapter 3 analyzes the effect of repetition and arrangement of image and sound, the two components of video. As image is produced with frame and shot through cinematographiong and editiong. there is a gap between what is seen and what has to be seen. Relationship between images, space, and time could be vary based on the effect of repetition and arrangement. Sound will create reality and illusion, expression and reproduction within the repetition and arrangement of rhythm and synchronization. Chapter 4 discusses on Deconstruction and Poststructualism as the theoretical bases in the philosophy and Semiotics. Chapter 5 introduces some of the video works that show the effects of repetition and arrangement. Repetition and arrangement of image and sound, as a method to view and interpret an object reflect the attitude of a subject who reasons about an object with stress and deconstruction in the sociocultural context.\r\nThe thesis attempts to find a new possibility of reality in the video work and video work in the reality through repetition and arrangement that apply as a tool of giving subjective perspective in the socio-reflective video works.
