예술은 인간이 자신의 생각이나 느낌을 서로 공유하기 위한 의사 전달 수단이자, 표현 방법이다. 시각예술은 사상, 감각, 감정 등을 시각 이미지로 표현하는 언어로 보는 이에게 시각적 환영적 경험의 장을 제공한다. 본 논문은 이러한 시각언어가 제공하는 환영적 경험의 장에 주목하고 있다. 시각 예술의 역사를 바라볼 때, 환영적 경험의 장은 각 시대적 상황과 요구에 따라 지속적으로 확장되고 변모되어왔다. 본 논문에서 논하는 환영적 경험의 의미는 크게 두 가지 측면으로 나눌 수 있다. 첫째, 재현된 시각 이미지로부터 실재성을 느끼게 되는 환영적 경험과 두 번째, 재현적 이미지가 아닌 구상적이거나 추상적 시각 이미지로부터 보는 이의 경험이나 심리적 요인에 의해 갖게 되는 상상이나 감성의 환영적 경험이다. 서구 시각예술의 역사는 헤겔의 변증법적 논리인 정·반·합 (正·反·合)에 준하여 변해왔다고 볼 수 있다. 오늘날의 포스트모더니즘적 예술 환경은 모더니즘적인 대립적 사고에서 벗어나 다양한 유형의 예술이 서로 영향을 미치면서 공존하고 있는 융합의 시대이다. 이러한 융합의 형태로 드러나는 대표적인 시각예술의 유형으로서, 하이브리드 아트를 들 수 있다. 하이브리드 아트는 20 세기 과학이 이룩한 디지털 매체와 종전의 전통적인 매체의 결합으로 이루어진 시각예술의 한 유형이다. 디지털 매체는 아날로그 매체가 안고 있는 표현의 한계를 넘어 새로운 표현의 가능성을 제공한다. 디지털 프로세스에 의한 표현성과 전통시각매체의 표현성의 상호 보완적 융합의 결합은 확장된 환영적 경험의 장을 새롭게 열어 갈 수 있는 무한한 가능성을 안고 있다. 이는 나날이 발전하고 있는 과학기술의 발전에 따라 디지털 프로세스의 표현성 또한 무한하게 확장되어 나갈 것이기 때문이다. 다시 말해, 하이브리드 아트는 인간의 역사와 함께 한 아날로그적 감성을 계승하면서 환영적 경험의 장을 확장시켜 나아가고 있다고 바라볼 수 있다. \r\n본 논문은 시각표현의 역사에 있어서 이루어진 환영적 경험의 장의 변모과정을 살펴보고 디지털 환경이 변화시킨 삶과 시각예술의 모습과 확장된 환영적 경험의 표현성에 대해 짚어보고자 한다. 그리고 본 논문에서 제시된 일련의 하이브리드 아트 작품들이 어떠한 방식으로 환영적 경험의 장을 확장시켜 나가고 있는지에 대한 연구를 통해 하이브리드 아트의 무한한 가능성을 확립시키고자 한다
Art plays an important role of expressing one's inner mind and communicating of one's thoughts. Visual arts, is a visual language which delivers one's thoughts, emotion, and sensibility. Among many roles of visual arts, is providing illusionistic experiences to its viewers. Visual arts have presented illusionistic experiences to its viewers, regardless to its changing role throughout the history. Illusionistic experiences can be comprised in to two kinds if we look from a wide point of view; it can be present through 'real-life' looking images which creates realistic illusion or through concrete or abstract images that are not realistic which creates illusionistic experience from one's experience or psychological factors. The history of Western visual arts has changed similarly following the logic of Hegelian dialectic. However, in our current postmodern time of visual arts where diverse influences co-exist, there no longer is a dominating art movement or style. In addition to that, computer-based technology, which was given birth by the advancement of science technology, has entered the world of visual arts and some of the artists who saw opening possibilities in expanding the expression methods of visual arts, started to work through the convergence of the digital media with the traditional method of visual arts thus, the birth of hybrid art. Hybrid art is a style in visual art where the digital and the analogue media co-exist. The digital media supplements some of the restrictions that had been present in the analogue media of visual arts and offers the artists newer possibilities on ways of visual expressions. Offering newer levels of illusionistic experiences is one of these newer possibilities in hybrid art and this possibility is still wide open due to the rapidly evolving science technology. This 'newer level of illusionistic experiences' in hybrid art, is one of the areas in which this research focuses on.\r\n\r\nThis research is to speculate upon the many open possibilities of expanding newer levels of illusionistic experiences in visual arts through hybrid art by analyzing how the computer-based media technology has changed the visual arts environment and also by analyzing suggested examples of the current hybrid art works and its expanded illusionistic experiences.
