Polarizing political gap is more evident in today’s society. Many scholars have examined the causes and proposed that this was due to selective consumption of ideologically congenial message which invigorated and further vindicated the proliferation of polarized political positions. As per studies to data, selective exposure is considered to be one of the major contributing factors of political polarization due to how citizens selectively repudiate and/or acknowledge a given policy based on their political positions. In contract to the widely accepted approach examining how selective exposure of a congenial message fuels animosity against and/or support their political positions, this study explores the idea that the third-person perception and perceived emotions may be the more probable cause of propagating polarized political gap. Through the experiments of this study, participants displayed the existence of third-person perception that others were more influenced on their side of message. In addition, they responded more positively than negatively toward the message while they presumed others as reversed. Theoretically, this study turns to the imprudent and often fatuous and/or anticipation of persuasion which is a misperception may to be the more probable cause of propagating polarized political gap.
