관점, 시공간, 상대성, infinity, relativity, space-time
현대에는 더 이상 고정적 관점이란 있을 수 없다. 기존의 관점과 새로운 다른 관점에 의해 세계에 대한 해석의 창이 변화하고 있다. 그리고 다른 관점을 가지고 있다고 하여 그릇되다 판단하며 일방적으로 적대시할 수 없는 시대에 우리는 살고 있다. 다를 수는 있지만 아니다는 결정을 내릴 수는 없기 때문이다. 공존하며 살아가는 이 시대에 다른 관점의 세계관이 존재할 수도 있다는 것을 직시할 수 있는 폭 넓고 유연한 사고가 우리에겐 필요하다. 관점의 상이성에 대한 이해와 관용, 덧붙여 고정관념으로부터의 탈피를 이룰 수 있다면 인간의 창조적 영감의 지평을 확대함은 물론 다원화된 현대사회 시민으로서의 똘레랑스(Tolerance)를 제고할 수 있으리라 보고 본 연구를 시작하게 되었다.\r\n\r\n본 논문과 영상물 <관점에 따라 변화하는 공간>은 공간에 관한 독특한 해석과 기발한 시각적 표현의 판화작품으로 유명한 네덜란드의 그래픽 아티스트 에셔(M.C. Escher)의 작품을 재해석한다. 그의 작품들은 다른 어떤 작가와도 구별되는 그만의 특징을 가지고 있는데, 복잡하게 상호 결합되어 있는 패턴들의 조합을 표현한 작품들과 뫼비우스의 띠를 근간으로 만들어낸 시각적 착각을 표현한 작품들로 널리 알려져 있다.\r\n\r\n본 논문은 에셔의 작품을 당대의 철학, 과학사조와 비교하며 각 작품들의 배경을 유추 분석하였고 발표자의 창의적 해석을 가미하여 제작한 영상물 <관점에 따라 변화하는 공간>에 대한 설명을 기술하였다. <관점에 따라 변화하는 공간>은 에셔가 표현한 독특한 공간에 시간의 상대성을 추가하여 영상으로 표현하려 하였다. 궁극적으로 절대적 시공간이 부재하는 그러한 "시공간"을 에셔는 항상 표현하고자 했다.
M.C. Escher was a master of creating visual images that defy time and space. In all of his perspective works, he shows an abstract world cleverly drafted to have an infinite illusion of time and space. This is the study of “Points of Infinity.” This illusion that defies the laws of physics derived from Girard Desargues. He was an artist during the Renaissance period who led this artistic genre to the modern field of geometrical art. Escher’s work is original, and his trademark is to distort the viewer’s point of visual reality. M.C. Escher’s dramatic world shows that art is an infinite subject that has no end or beginning.\r\n In our daily lives there can be many different points of view of time and space. This study offers a reading of Escher’s work though Einstein’s theory of relativity and shows how Escher’s method can be developed into animation. My own animation work
