SNS 의존, 도시 지역 커뮤니티 관여, 커뮤니티 스토리텔링 효과
본 연구는 SNS 이용이 도시 지역 커뮤니티 관여(지역 커뮤니티 소속감, 집합적 효능감, 지역 공동체 참여)에 영향을 미칠 수 있는지를 커뮤니케이션 하부구조이론의 틀에서 살펴본다. 본 연구에서는 SNS 이용을 미디어체계의존이론에 따른 SNS의존이라는 척도를 가져와, 전반적인 SNS 의존도와 개별 목적에 따른 SNS 의존도가 도시 지역 커뮤니티 관여에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 또한 SNS 의존과 지역 커뮤니티 관여 사이의 관계가 커뮤니티 스토리텔링(지역 커뮤니티 대화, 지역 미디어 이용, 지역 커뮤니티 단체∙모임 참여)에 따라 어떻게 달라지는지 조절 효과를 분석한다. 본 연구를 위한 분석은 2012년 여름 서울 및 수도권 지역(분당과 일산)에서 수집한 설문조사 데이터 중에서 SNS 이용자 표본(n=467)을 바탕으로 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 중 주목할 점은 다음과 같다. (1) SNS 의존도가 지역 커뮤니티 소속감에는 정적 영향을 미치고 집합적 효능감에는 부적 영향을 미친다. (2) SNS 의존도를 구성하는 세부 목적들이 지역 커뮤니티 관여에 어떤 영향을 주는지 살펴본 결과, 지역 커뮤니티 소속감에는 개인적 이해가 정적 영향을 미치고, 집합적 효능감에는 개인적 이해(+), 개인적 방향(-), 개인적 재미(-), 사회적 이해(-), 사회적 방향(+)이 영향을 미치고, 지역 공동체 참여에는 개인적 이해(+), 개인적 방향(-), 사회적 이해(-)이 영향을 미친다. (3) 커뮤니티 스토리텔링 변인들이 SNS 의존도와 집합적 효능감과 지역 공동체 참여의 관계를 어떻게 조절하는지 살펴본 결과, 지역 커뮤니티에 대한 대화가 높을수록 SNS 의존이 집합적 효능감과 지역 공동체 참여에 미치는 효과가 커지는 것으로 나타났다.
Many researchers argue that the use of media affects local community engagement. Yet most previous researches have not shown the true effect of SNS on individuals’ local community engagement. Therefore, the current study attempts to explain the use of SNS influences local community engagement: local community belonging, collective efficacy, and local community participation, adopting communication infrastructure theory(CIT). Specifically, this study uses the scale of SNS dependency, which is followed by media system dependency theory(MSDT), as the means of SNS usage. It explores not only the effects of overall SNS dependency and each goal of SNS dependency to local community engagement. Also, this study examines the moderating effects of community storytelling: local community talk, local media use, and local community organization participation on the relation between overall SNS dependency and local community engagement. To examine the research hypothesis, the study used single, multiple and hierarchical regression analysis. \r\nThe most valuable findings are as follow. First, SNS dependency had a positive effect on subjects’ local community belonging. On the contrary, it had a negative effect on subjects’ collective efficacy. Second, as the effect of each purpose of SNS dependency to local community engagement was examined, individual understanding dependency had a positive effect on subjects’ local community belonging. Individual understanding dependency and social orientation dependency had positive effects on collective efficacy. On the other hand, individual orientation dependency, individual play dependency, and social understanding dependency had negative effects on collective efficacy. Also, individual understanding dependency had a positive effect on subjects’ local community participation whereas individual orientation and social understanding dependency had negative effects on it. In other words, when one depends on SNS as the purpose of individual understanding, the degree of local community engagement is increased; depending SNS with individual orientation and social understanding purposes leads decreased collective efficacy and local community participation. \r\n Lastly, as the effect of community storytelling variables were examined, there were significant moderating effects on the relation between SNS dependency and local community engagement. When the volume of local community talking is high, the effect of SNS dependency on collective efficacy and local community participation is positively increased. This result suggests that talking about one’s local community is required for the effect of SNS use on local community engagement.
