커뮤니케이션하부구조, ICSN, 커뮤니티 스토리텔링,의견 표출, 의견 탐색, 정치,참여, 커뮤니티 참여
본 연구는 커뮤니케이션하부구조이론을(Communication infrastructure theory)을 이론적 틀로 하여, 개인들이 지역 스토리텔러들(지역 주민, 지역 미디어, 지역 모임/단체)과 가지는 통합적 연결 (integrated connectedness to the storytelling network,이하 ICSN)이 정치 참여 및 커뮤니티 참여에 미치는 영향을 한국적 상황에서 살펴보았다. 또한, ICSN 이 정치 참여와 커뮤니티 참여에 미치는 영향이 개인의 의견 표출성향과 의견 탐색성향에 따라 어떻게 나타나는지 알아보았다. 이를 위해, 서울에 거주하는 1565 명의 성인 남녀를 대상으로 2012 년 8 월부터 10 월까지 일대일 개별면접조사(CAPI: Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing)를 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 정치 참여와 커뮤니티 참여에 대한 ICSN 의 영향이 통계적으로 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. ICSN 점수가 높은 개인일수록 정치 및 커뮤니티 관련 활동에 더 활발히 참여하고 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. 더불어, ICSN 과 의견 표출성향 및 의견 탐색성향이 정치 참여와 커뮤니티 참여에 미치는 상호작용효과 또한 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 특히, ICSN 점수가 상대적으로 높은 집단의 경우 개인의 성향과 무관하게 커뮤니티 참여도가 모두 높게 나타난 것은 주목할 만하다. 이는 커뮤니케이션 인프라가 잘 갖춰진 환경에서 개인이 이를 잘 활용한다면, 시민참여에 있어서 개인적 성향이 극복될 수 있다는 점을 시사하고 있다.
The purpose of this study was to replicate communication infrastructure theory (CIT) in South Korea, and to examine the effects of integrated connectedness to the storytelling network (ICSN) on civic engagement between individuals with different opinion expression and opinion seeking tendencies. Due to previous CIT studies did not consider individuals' roles in the storytelling, we attempted to classify individuals with their opinion expression and opinion seeking tendencies. As a result, we created four groups based on the levels of opinion expression and opinion seeking, and named each group as interactive, charismatic, submissive, and indifferent. Our findings underpinned the results from previous studies regarding the effects of ICSN on civic engagement.
