본 연구는 생산참여자 간의 협업관계 분석을 통해 생산과정에서 드러나는 다원예술의 특성에 관한 연구이다. 다원예술은 기존의 장르에서 벗어나 장르해체 및 장르융합의 과정을 통해 새로운 형식으로 생산되기에 본 연구자는 다원예술에 대한 분석이 결과물이 아닌 생산과정에서 진행될 필요성을 제기한다. 또한 다원예술의 생산과정에 필수적으로 동반되는 요소가 생산참여자 간의 협업관계라고 보고, 이들의 관계 분석을 통해 다원예술의 생산과정을 고찰하였다.
이를 분석하기 위한 이론적 틀로 예술생산을 사회학적 관점에서 분석한 하워드 베커(Howard S. Becker)의 예술계 이론과 피에르 부르디외(Pierre Bourdieu)의 예술 장이론을 상호보완적으로 활용하였다. 그리고 두 이론을 활용하여 다원예술 생산참여자의 관계를 분석하였다. 다원예술 작업에 참여하는 생산참여자는 ‘작품 생산’에 기여하는 참여자와 ‘가치 생산’에 기여하는 참여자로 구분하고 ‘작품 생산’의 주체인 예술가 5명과 ‘가치 생산’의 주체인 매개자 4명(문화사업가 2명, 기획자 2명)에 대한 심층인터뷰를 진행했다.
이를 통해 다원예술의 간학제적 특성과 다원주의적 특성은 예술가와 매개자 간의 협업관계뿐만 아니라 예술가 간의 협업관계에서도 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이들의 협업관계는 각 생산참여자의 전문성에 기반한 기능적 분업과 이해관심에 대한 상징투쟁이 복합적으로 나타났다. 또한 생산물의 형식이 비정형적이라는 특성에 의해 생산참여자의 역할 및 정체성이 중첩되는 지점을 포착하였고, 이를 다원예술 생산과정에서 확인 가능한 또 다른 특성으로 제시한다.
This study explores the characteristics of interdisciplinary art revealed in the production process through the analysis of collaborative relationships among participants. Interdisciplinary art, emerging through processes such as genre deconstruction and genre-blending, necessitate an analysis not just of the end product but within the production process. The researcher argues that understanding interdisciplinary art requires examining the collaborative relationships among participants, which are considered essential elements in the production process. Through the analysis of these relationships, the study delves into the production process of interdisciplinary art.
ㅤ The study employs a theoretical framework combining Howard S. Becker's art world theory and Pierre Bourdieu's field of art theory, both analyzed from a sociological perspective. This framework is used to examine the relationships among interdisciplinary art participants. The study categorizes participants into two groups: those contributing to work production and those contributing to value production. In-depth interviews were conducted with five artists who contribute to work production and two cultural entrepreneurs and two curators who contribute to value production.
ㅤ This investigation revealed that the characteristics of interdisciplinary art, such as interdisciplinarity and pluralism, are evident in the collaborative relationships between artists and mediators, as well as among artists themselves. It was observed that these relationships involve a complex interplay of functional specialization based on the expertise of the participants and symbolic struggles over interests. Additionally, the study identified points of overlapping roles and identities among the participants, influenced by the unstructured nature of interdisciplinary art. This characteristic is presented as another distinctive feature observable in the production of interdisciplinary art.
