Q. What is the application process for an international student?
A. Application process consists of two steps: document review and interview. Once applicants pass the first round, document review, then they will proceed to the interview.
Q. When is the deadline to apply for spring/fall admission?
A. Regarding the application deadline for spring/fall admission, please check the announcement on the website for a precise date every year. Usually, the spring deadline is mid-May, and the fall deadline is mid-November.
Q. Will the classes be offered in English? Will there be any Korean classes available for an international student to take and improve her/his knowledge of the language?
A. Most classes are offered in Korean and only a few in English. In order to take classes in Korean, the applicants should be proficient in both speaking and writing in Korean. We do not provide any Korean language classes at the Graduate School of Communication and Arts, but Yonsei University Korean Language Institute offers Korean language courses.
Q. Are international students required to submit Korean language scores when applying?
A. International applicants are required to submit their TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) scores (above level 3) when applying.
Q. Is TOEFL/TOEIC required for admission?
A. Foreign language (English) scores can be submitted from both international and Korean applicants when applying, but it is optional. However, English scores (TOEFL, TOEIC, TEPS, IELTS) are required before thesis review.
Applicants who meet one of the following criteria are exempt from the English proficiency requirement after admission:
1) Applicants who have entered a doctoral program within 3 years of completing a master's degree at one of the graduate schools at Yonsei University
2) Foreigners from countries where English is the official language
3) Doctoral degree applicants who completed their master's program or master's degree applicants who completed their undergraduate degree in an English-speaking country (USA, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of South Africa, Ireland)
4) Applicants who have submitted grades higher than the standard score set by the graduate school within 2 years from the year of admission
Q. Is there any assistantship or scholarship available for the graduate program? If so, what options are available, what are the requirements, and what are the perks?
A. There are scholarship and assistantship opportunities for international students. However, the availability and the amount of scholarship may vary depending on the circumstances per semester (i.e. number of international students enrolled). Regarding the assistantship, international students can apply for relevant positions or roles per semester (i.e. Research assistant for professors, assistants for lab, movie theatre, gallery, managing homepage, or SNS).
